"Truman has felt like home since my first week here. There is always something going on and amazing people to hang out with."

At Truman, we realize that college is more than just the classroom experience. The Truman Experience is the combination of factors that will make you feel like Truman is a place you can call home. It is about making friends, living independently, and exploring the world around you. This is why we have created an environment that encourages student activity and interaction. We have highlighted a few of the ways that you can become involved and have fun at Truman.
The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is the hub for campus organizations ranging from social fraternities and sororities to academic, religious, political and service organizations. The CSI also sponsors Truman Week, our residential orientation program held a week before the start of the fall semester. Designed to help you get acquainted with other freshmen and explore the campus before the upperclassmen arrive, Truman Week provides a mix of social and academic activities to help ease your transition to college life.
The Student Activities Board (SAB) provides an annual line-up of current movies, concerts, dances, comedians, and other entertainment activities. At Truman, you won’t have to leave campus to get the big city atmosphere. The SAB will bring the big city to you! In recent years the SAB has brought Ben Folds, Guster, Yellowcard, CAKE, Recycled Percussion, the Mythbusters, Tracy Morgan, Dashboard Confessional, Lewis Black, MXPX, Jim Gaffigan, Demetri Martin, and OK Go to Kirksville.
Truman has several accomplished vocal and instrumental performance groups for students who are musically inclined. For example, the Statesmen Marching Band, including the fabulous drumline, provides spirit and entertainment at the home football games. Other instrumental opportunities include the, Symphony Orchestra, University Concert Band, Jazz Band, Basketball Pep Band, Brass Choir, and Percussion Ensemble. We also have various vocal groups including the University Choir, Cantoria, Franklin Street Singers show choir, Chamber Choir, True Men, our men’s a capella group, and Minor Detail, our women's a capella group.
Truman, provides a supportive, open environment that will enable you to learn about yourself while you learn about the world around you. The Truman Experience means you will see friends as you walk to class. You and your roommate will stay up late talking about your life before college. You will join a campus or community organization (or maybe five or six). You will make lifelong friends. You will experience new cultures and try new things. You will accomplish more than you ever thought possible.
