At Truman State
University, we believe that the
International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally respected
and assessed college preparatory program, fits perfectly with our
Liberal Arts Mission. Whether you’re completing the Diploma
Programme or individual class certificates, we think you may be the
right fit for us. Here’s why we might be the right fit for
you:
Value: Truman is nationally recognized for both the strength of our academic programs and the economic value of our education for both in-state and out-of-state students. Truman is ranked sixth on Washington Monthly’s list of top 50 Master’s Universities, the highest of any public school on the list. Meanwhile, both The Princeton Review and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance have found Truman to be one of the 50 best values in higher education – at graduation, nearly half of Truman students have no federal student loan debt.
Financial Assistance: Upon acceptance to Truman, IB Diploma Candidates are automatically considered for our competitive IB Scholarship. In addition, the rigorous coursework and high involvement level of IB students is taken into account in our scholarship review process.
Credit: Students completing an IB diploma with a minimum cumulative score on the six IB exams of 30 (an average score of “5” on each exam) are guaranteed a minimum of 30 hours of college credit at Truman. These credits will be assigned by our Registrar’s office after viewing the student’s transcript. Those students completing a diploma with a cumulative score of 24 to 29, or those completing certificate courses, will receive college credit for Higher Level Examinations with a score of 4 or higher.
Understanding: Truman provides a diverse liberal arts curriculum with more than 40 academic majors and courses offered in 11 foreign languages. As a highly selective, public liberal arts university, Truman provides a unique setting for students seeking academic challenge and faculty attention.
Results: Truman faculty design our courses to be the best possible preparation for the next step—be it Medical or Law School, Graduate School, or the professional workplace. Nearly half of our graduates go immediately on to graduate/professional school while the majority of others are employed within six months of graduation.
Take Charge: Truman provides extensive opportunities for undergraduate research, with more than 1/5 of students engaged in independent research projects annually. Students can also steer their own learning path, working closely with a faculty member to create their own Student Initiated Courses and Learning Opportunities, or even their own academic program through our interdisciplinary studies major.
See the World: Truman offers nearly 200 study abroad programs in more than 50 countries around the world, ranging from 2 weeks to an entire semester in length. With courses available in English as well as the language of their destination country, students can truly customize their experience. Students can learn credit towards their Truman degree not only through study abroad programs, but also international internships and research experiences.
Community: Truman students thrive on our active campus of 5,800 students with more than 270 student groups, including social Greek fraternities and sororities, recreational sport teams, student interest clubs, and community service organizations. Every student can leave their mark on campus!
