Admission Requirements

Admission to Truman is based upon high school curriculum; high school grade point average and rank; standardized test scores (ACT or SAT); special abilities, talents, or achievements; and an essay. Students planning to enroll at Truman should complete the following high school core curriculum: four units English, three units mathematics (four units are strongly recommended), three units social studies/history, three units natural science, one unit fine arts and two units foreign language (same language).

Under guidelines for highly selective institutions from the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education, the students who receive the strongest consideration for admission to Truman will have a 140 combined ability. The combined ability is determined by adding the high school class rank percent to the national percentile on the ACT or SAT college entrance exam.

Prior to declaring a major in music, each student must perform for a committee of the appropriate studio faculty in order to determine that the student has reached a sufficiently advanced level of applied proficiency.  For more information or to schedule an audition, visit the music audition web page.

Placement in the nursing major is dependent upon the number of spaces available and individual evaluation. Applicants interested in nursing must be accepted into the program in addition to being accepted to the University. Students interested in nursing must complete an application and essay by January 31 for admission to the program.  For more information visit the nursing program home page.

Transfer Admission Requirements

Truman welcomes applications from students who have earned previous college credit from other accredited institutions. Admission is based upon combined criteria: high school rank/grade point average, ACT/SAT, cumulative grade point average for previous college credit, and strength of high school and college curricula. Students who would not meet the University's first-time freshman admission requirements are not normally accepted for admission.
